Description
Please note: this is for participants Age 18+

Dangerous Theatre is a playful, practical workshop exploring the transformative methods of Augusto Boal and Theatre of the Oppressed, led by theatre director and facilitator Scott Johnston.

With over 40 years’ experience working with actors, directors and students across four continents, Scott has spent more than 30 years exploring Boal’s methods. In the past year, he has led Dangerous Theatre workshops at Krakow Fest in Poland, the Daejon International Theatre Festival in South Korea and Babelfast in Romania.

Through a series of accessible, practical exercises, participants will experiment, take risks, explore different perspectives and discover new possibilities in their work. Boal’s techniques offer much more than Forum Theatre: they can be used to create new work, explore existing texts, develop characters, investigate relationships and challenge the way we see.

No previous experience of Theatre of the Oppressed is needed. The workshop can adapt to different groups and levels of experience, creating space to play, question, collaborate and discover.

As Augusto Boal said: “It’s not complicated - but it is complex.” Above all, Dangerous Theatre is an invitation to be curious, brave and playful.

Suitable for:

  • Emerging artists developing their professional practice
  • Freelancers looking to experiment with new approaches
  • New graduates preparing to enter the creative sector
